Faux Fish Bowl: Eileen Hull’s Book Club Collection Sneak Peek

My craft wife Eileen Hull has a new collection for Sizzix coming out soon called “Book Club,” and it’s a winner. One of the dies is for a trinket box and frame. Well, I turned it sideways and thought it looked like a fish bowl, so I made a desktop aquarium for people like me who can’t even keep a goldfish alive.

I was also inspired by the Broadway musical adaption of the movie “Amelie.” In the musical, a young Amelie gets a goldfish as her only friend, and she calls it Fluffy. So this is my new desktop friend to keep me company as I work.

The fish for this aquarium is made from one of Eileen’s leaf dies. I wanted it to look like the fish is swimming in the water, so it’s attached to the back with one of those springy things from a ballpoint pen. The scalloped edge that serves as the “water level” is from Eileen’s hydrangeas and borders die. I also put a piece of plastic on the inside of the frame so it really does look like the fish is in a bowl. That piece of plastic is from some Sizzix packaging. I always save that plastic packaging. It’s good stuff. I hope you like the fish bowl — and I’m not fishing for compliments.fish bowl

This is awesome! I can’t wait for these dies and have been searching for all the sneak peeks. I’ll definitely copy your idea, if you don’t mind. Mine, however, will feature a snail (my obsession, among others…). Is your fish named Fluffy too? All the best — Tree

Oh, I will want to see that snail. I also love snails. When I was in grade school, one of my favorite objects was a ceramic snail, and my mom still has it in her garden. And yes, my fish is named Fluffy too!
