You know I’m all about personalization. Well, here’s a personalization idea where I put photos of my dogs Fosse and Gershwin on their own stockings. I know they probably won’t appreciate how creative that is. They just want the treats that are going to be in the stocking. Sigh, the things I do for these pups. Anyway, this project was so easy, I made both of the stockings in less than an hour. The idea came to me when I got these cool blank canvas stockings from CanvasCorp. It’s like they’re begging to be decorated with Craft Attitude. For those of you who haven’t used Craft Attitude yet, it is a printable film that goes through your inkjet printer. You print any photo or design on it, and you can apply it to practically any surface with a glue stick or spray adhesive.
Let me show you how I made these stockings. Like I said, I started off with a CanvasCorp blank canvas stocking. Then I printed out some photos of my dogs, as well as some miscellaneous holiday-looking graphics and their names, on the Craft Attitude film. (By the way, Craft Attitude also goes by other names like Shoe Attitude, Jewelry Attitude, Quilt Attitude, etc. They are all interchangeable, so you can use any of them.)
STEP 1: Apply a glue stick on the stocking, and use your finger to even it out. I used Elmer’s Xtreme glue stick because I’m an Xtreme kind of guy. I worked in sections rather than covering the whole stocking all at once, mainly because the stocking was larger than an 8 1/2″ x 11″ sheet of Craft Attitude.
STEP 2: Peel the Craft Attitude film from its backing paper and place it ink side down on the stocking. When you’re printing on the Craft Attitude, be sure to print on the shiny side, and do it in reverse, as you’ll be flipping it over. When the film is on the stocking, burnish it with your fingers.
STEP 3: Flip the stocking over so you can clearly see the excess Craft Attitude that you need to cut. The great thing about the CanvasCorp stocking is that the edges are unfinished, and the seam is exposed, so you can cut right through the edge without hurting the stocking.
STEP 4: Keep adding sections of Craft Attitude film around the stocking until the stocking is covered, again applying a glue stick to the stocking and then placing the film on it. It’s all right to overlap the film if you don’t want to cut so precisely. And just like that, you’re done. What a fun way to customize a stocking in a really unique way. It’s a Christmas miracle!
